8 days with bells palsy
by: Tamara W.
on Wed, Apr 23 2008
I woke up April 15th 2008 with BP.I had not been stressed about anything nor had I been sick at all. I went from perfectly normal to bells palsy overnight. I had never heard of BP before my episode with it. I looked up”crooked smile” on the web and discovered info about Bells Palsy
I went to the ER and was diagnosed with Bells Palsy and prescribed a 6 day supply of Prednisone. I am embarrassed to go to work like this (I am a waitress)but I still have been going.I’m hoping this will pass soon.As long as I don’t smile it’s not too noticeable, but after working and talking continuously my mouth starts to become over-worked or something and it gets all crooked and lifts up and out on one side of my face and then I am really embarrassed. Some words are hard to pronounce and my mouth is so tired and cramped.
I also can’t blink in one eye, although I can forcefully close it and I do not have to tape it closed at night.I am using GenTeal artificial tears during the day. I’ve read this can take from 2 weeks to 3 to 6 months to recover from. The ER doctor said 2 to 3 weeks but I haven’t read many success stories that were that quick.I’m really wondering how long I will have to live with this and if I take a week off from work to rest my mouth if recovery would happen any sooner.Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks for being there and helping out
