To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Cold Intolerance In January of 2006 it all started. I first noticed that I was feeling extremely cold at work…the job I’d been at for four years and never had a problem. I started getting so cold that I kept getting sore throats, then a swollen nose and gravelly throat, and then I’d need to go on antibiotics to get rid of it. I also ran low fevers, around 99.8-100.5. I’d get off the antibiotics, and a few weeks later feel sick again. I asked for a desk location change three times, but no matter where I sat, I was miserably cold. I kept drinking hot coffee and piling on the clothes to stay warm..progressing from nylons, to women’s socks, to men’s socks, to boots on my feet. While everyone around me was comfortable in short sleeve shirts, I was wearing long sleeve shirts and lined jackets, and running a space heater at my feet. By the fall of 2006, I was running out to my car every day at lunch to blast the heater to warm up…..all this while I live in Florida where it was 80 degrees outside…but inside where the air conditioning was pumping, I was miserable. My doctors thought I had allergy and sinus issues and I went through the gammit on those tests. I also saw two thyroid specialists who said all my numbers were in normal range, so it wasnt a thyroid issue. I finally left the workforce in December. Being at home, in a warm environment, the fevers and infections finally cleared up. But, everytime I go into a store or building that is highly airconditioned, within 20 minutes I get chilled to the bone and feel the sore throat starting to come on again. The only thing that takes out the chill is to get out of the cold environment and take a hot bath. Its not only air conditioning though, when the outdoor temp drops below 65 degrees, its the same…I get chilled very easily and need to get inside or else I get the sore throat and infections. Im desperate for answers…the doctors don’t know why my body gets so cold…it just wont adjust like everyone elses, yet they insist its not thyroid. I wonder if anyone out there had a similar experience. May 2007
