Fear from a loved one who does not sleep!

by: Judy on Fri, Mar 07 2008

My husband has cronic [chronic] pain that has been ongoing for more than 20yrs. He gets help for the pain so it is not severe for a while then when it gets close to re-up his medication the pain is escelated and the sleep does not come for at least 2 weeks or more.

He has tried antidepressents (elivil, diazapam, and others in that type). He still does not sleep. The problem is he gets so disoriented, mean and not himself to the point of scarring me and himself. We are not sure why these medications cause this. He tries them and then we go through the drama and then try another. He is frustrated and I worry that one of these times he may take his own life, due to the sadness and uncertainty of his moods.

He is not aware of what he does and does not remember the things he does unless I tell him about them. I do not know what to do. He has a great pain management team and a great regular doctor. We tell them about the episodes and they just say well try this!

I am starting to think he will never find the help he needs and he will choose to end it all!!! He is 52 and has had numerous surgeries for his back, he has had both hips replaced, the left one three times and the right twice. He has had a 4 way bypass and both soulders rotorcuffs [shoulder rotator cuffs] done. He has terrible pain and has tried every thing the drs ask of him to try.

Is there anyone out there that knows anything that could help him? I sleep very well and I feel so guilty that I lose sleep so he does not have to hear me snore! I do not know what to do now. Anyone……..please suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

  • Total Sleeplessness - by Marlene - (Mon, Mar 10 2008)
I have had a lifetime of very little to no sleep. All through my life as a child, as a teenager, and as a wife and mother, I averaged 2-4 hours sleep a night. [more..]
